The zine examines the body as an archive of ancestral memory through the appropriation of my family’s collection of photographs. The phrase “you see the costume not the spirit” is translated from a Yoruba saying used to describe the Egungun, a masquerade costume serving as a vessel for ancestral spirits activated through dance.
